Why Fork Cap Extensions Are Unnecessary on the KTM Super Duke
Share
When upgrading to high-end cartridges, you will often see aftermarket options — like the GP cap — that add 10mm of length to the fork cap. The idea behind these extensions is to provide the option of pushing your forks down through the top triple clamp to add trail. On a Super Duke, this is completely unnecessary.
The SDR Already Has Too Much Trail Stock
Nobody riding an SDR needs to add more trail — these bikes already come with a massive amount of it stock. Adding trail just makes the bike feel lazier and harder to turn.
The Clicker Access Problem
Furthermore, these extensions create a massive annoyance for tuning: because the fork cap now sits significantly higher, the rebound and compression clickers are pushed right up against the underside of your handlebars. This makes adjusting your suspension settings on the fly a total nightmare.
OEM Length Is the Right Call
When developing custom caps for the Super Duke/Ohlins cartridge setup, I specifically design them to OEM length. You do not need the extra length, and you certainly do not need the headache of blocked clicker access.
Keep your fork caps flush, maintain your steering geometry where it belongs, and keep your adjusters accessible. If you want to reduce trail on your Super Duke, the Superclamp is the correct tool for the job — not fork cap extensions.
