Do I Need Stiffer Fork Springs on the KTM Super Duke EVO, or Can I Just Adjust the Electronic Suspension?

Here is the interesting thing about the Super Duke EVO: I believe you can get away with using a "too light" spring up front. This is due to the electronic valving being so uniquely controlling in a way that standard valving simply is not capable of. In my experience, those electronics operate in a range that is vastly broader than standard valving.

Theoretically, you can use this extra range of control to step in and keep the forks from bottoming out when the spring rate is too light for your weight or pace. The front spring on the EVO is technically too light for me as well, but I rode the shit out of the EVO at Laguna Seca with those exact springs, and I never bottomed out. Without that electronic valving, I absolutely would have. It is almost weird how much the electronics can control the fork damping.

Of course, this comes at a price. With that extra range of electronic control, the front end does become stiffer in feel. That stiff feeling is not the same as using a stronger physical front spring. It is actually very different. My overall observation after running the suspension at multiple different settings is that the electronic valving can feel hard—not just at the end of the stroke, like a stiffer spring might feel, but all the way through the stroke. When the valving or anti-dive is cranked way up, it is bonkers. It feels like someone poured a yard of concrete into the forks.

If you are trying to find compliance and feel, relying purely on the electronics to mask a soft spring will result in a harsh ride.
